Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) is a popular thermoplastic polymer and CNC machining material widely used in the machining industry. It is created by the copolymerization of Acrylonitrile, Butadiene, and Styrene.
Due to the varying ratios of these three monomers, ABS can exhibit different properties and melting points. When ABS is blended with other plastics or additives, it can be enhanced to have different uses and characteristics, such as impact resistance, heat resistance, flame retardancy, transparency, reinforcement, and electroplating capability. The acrylonitrile component enhances thermal stability and chemical resistance, the butadiene provides impact strength and toughness, while the styrene allows for good moldability and rigidity. In general, ABS is a low-cost engineering plastic that comes in the form of a non-crystalline, light yellow or milky white granular material.
CNC machining of ABS plastic is an excellent choice for machine parts, automotive components, accessories, consumer products, electronics, tools, and instruments, as well as applications in the textile and construction industries. ABS plastic is ideal and easy to machine for turning, drilling, and milling on CNC machines, offering a low-cost solution.
